Her Needs I Can't Meet
This Week's Theme: Praying for Your Family
Wednesday, November 29

Key Bible Verse: As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. (1 Samuel 12:23a).
Bonus Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

When I bring to God the situations in Susan's life, I recall our conversations of the night be fore and ask myself: What's on her mind today? What's on her agenda? What's she likely to be feeling? What burdens and apprehensions will she have? What responsibilities and pressures confront her? What's she anticipating with excitement? What things will challenge her?

Then I pray not just for her but for the people she'll be with, and try to remember specific things she might need God's help with during the day. Some examples:

• "Please give her an extra measure of peace, as she's apt to be worried about our son who's on the road today."

• "Help her to be able to trust that You'll take care of this problem we don't know how to deal with."

• "Help her grow in her discipline to carry out those exercises the doctor recommended."

• "Please reassure her of my love for her and the children, even though I'll be away all week."

If I could personally meet these needs in Susan's life, there'd be no need to ask God's help. It only makes sense to ask His help for the many concerns that a husband can't necessarily handle.

—John Yates in How a Man Prays for His Family

Respond:
Take time to pray like this for your wife today.

Thought to Apply:
Successful marriage is always a triangle: a man, a woman, and God.

—Cecil Meyers (writer)
