Men of Integrity, Nov/Dec 2000

At the Bachelor Party
This Week's Theme: Contagious Faith
Tuesday, November 7

Key Bible Verse: Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity (Colossians 4:5).
Bonus Reading: Colossians 4:6, 1 Peter 3:15-16

If you've lived faithfully with your friends, they know you're a Christian. If you come back from a church retreat and they ask how it was, don't shy away from saying God did some remarkable things. It won't totally surprise them. Once you've built relationships, you can speak of Jesus to non-Christians in the same way you speak to Christians. You don't have to look for opportunities to manipulate conversations; simply let people know what God has done and is doing in your life. Use language they can understand.

Once I went to a bachelor party with a bunch of friends. When the stripper came, with friends bantering, I went outside and sat on the curb. One of my friends followed me out and asked me what was wrong. With the sounds of music and cheering in the background, I told how Jesus had helped me deal with lust. He shared his own struggles.

When people hear our stories and observe the ways God is working in our lives, they begin to see compelling little chapters of the greater story of how God reached across time and space, across the incredible divide of sin to have a relationship with us.

Jonathan Tran in Faith on the Edge

Respond: Recall a situation when you had to make a difficult choice for integrity's sake. How did God work in that situation?

Thought to Apply:
Where one man reads the Bible, a hundred read you and me.

—Dwight L. Moody (evangelist, 19th century)

Adapted from Paul Tokunaga, Faith on the Edge (InterVarsity, 1999).

0  Prayer for the Week 0

Lord, I pray you would use me to share Christ with one person this week.
