One Night in Bed
This Week's Theme: Same-Sex Attraction
Tuesday, February 20, 2001

Key Bible Verse: Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable (Leviticus 18:22).
Bonus Reading:Romans 1:18-32

Growing up, Mike Reed felt different from "tough" boys who taunted him. In high school, he gravitated to other kids in theater who'd experienced peer rejection. Mike felt a growing sexual attraction to other men and began a long-term relationship with one. But the "long-term" relationship fell apart after one year.

Mike began a spiritual search which led him through yoga and a couple of cults. Then "two friends from work took me to a church where I heard that Jesus died for my sins," Mike recalls. "After that I started pulling away from the gay bars."

But Mike met an attractive man at church whom he'd previously seen in the bars. We're both gay and we also have a common faith in God, Mike thought. Soon they were sexually involved. But one night in bed, Mike's lover turned to him and said, "We can't do this anymore. It's wrong." He opened his Bible and showed Mike where it forbade homosexual relationships.

"The Scriptures hit me like a brick between the eyes," Mike admits. "We got down on our knees and asked the Lord to help us turn away from homosexuality."

—Bob Davies in Coming Out of Homosexuality

Respond:

Will you let God have the last word in your relationships?

Thought to Apply:

My truck has a four-wheel drive; however I shouldn't expect to avoid a citation by explaining to the highway patrol that I was being driven by my drive!

0Prayer for the Week

God, I need Your help to understand myself and others. Help me to believe You are always loving, always accepting of all sinners, even me.
