 Beyond "Ex-Gay" This Week's Theme: Same-Sex Attraction

Key Bible Verse: Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity
so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness (Romans 6:19b). Bonus Reading:
After Mike heard about a Christian ministry for helping people overcome homosexuality, he joined its live-in program. There he dealt with his masculine identity, feelings of inferiority to other men, discipline of his thought life and the need to form healthy friendships with other straight men in his church.
Mike moved into a home with two Christian friends who had no past gay experiences. At times Mike was discouraged by continuing homosexual temptations but, he says, "As I persevered, God brought me through. A renewing of my mind was taking place, but it took time. I had to be patient." Even when his old friends harassed him, Mike stood firm.
As Mike felt accepted and gained confidence, he began taking a leadership role in the worship team at his church. Then he began dating women he met there. Eventually Mike was married. Today he and Helen have three children.
Now Mike says, "I see myself as a fulfilled man, a strong and stable person. I don't even think of myself as 'ex-gay' much. It's an area that I relate to less and less."

Respond:
Rejoice that you can be a new creation in Christ.
Thought to Apply:
Christ's ennobling and terrifying message for people living with same-sex attraction is that we are created, loved and responsible.
