Lloyd's Greatest Pride
This Week's Theme: Job Satisfaction
Friday, February 9

Key Bible Verse: He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor (Proverbs 21:21).
Bonus Reading Proverbs 3:1-2; 28:20

Lloyd is 93 years old. He retired—sort of—about two years ago from the home improvement business he started in the 1940s. His son now runs the company and still frequently consults him. I visit Lloyd in his office at home. He usually sits next to his computer. (He gave me his e-mail address the last time I visited with him.)

Lloyd's an inspiration to me. Because he's so grateful for God's goodness, he's practiced stewardship in every area of his life. He's given faithfully and generously of himself and his finances to both the church and the community.

From the beginning, Lloyd provided not only a pension plan for his employees but also shared with them 10 percent of the profit. His greatest pride is not in the wealth he's accumulated but in the satisfaction of those whom his business has served and the people he's employed. Lloyd's done all of this without calling attention to himself. Instead, he gives credit to God. And he's never grown weary of caring for those he believed God placed under his oversight.

What man in your life has provided an example like that of Lloyd? Why not have a conversation with him today?

—Doug Haugen in God's Man

Respond:
Let someone know how much you've benefited from the way he's run his business and lived his life.

Thought to Apply:
Nothing is work unless you would rather be doing something else.

—William James (psychologist and philosopher, 19th century)

Adapted from God's Man (Kregel, 1998).

0  Prayer for the Week 0
