Men of Integrity, Mar/Apr 2001

Prayer Versus Porn
This Week's Theme: Faith in the Community
Friday, April 13

Key Bible Verse: For our struggle is … against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12).
Bonus Reading: Eph. 6:10-18

The first Saturday Jack drove to the X-rated pornographic store near his neighborhood, he was shaking with fear. He'd felt a burning passion to protect the dignity of sexuality and the purity of the men and boys in his area. But he'd never been inside an adults-only store. He walked in at 10 a.m. and told a dumbfounded owner, "Hello, my name's Jack. I've come to tell you that every Saturday morning from 10 to 11 I'll drive into your lot, park over in that front corner and pray that God will bring circumstances to bear on your life and store so that your business will be shut down."

Jack came every Saturday and prayed. No one harassed him, but he often felt alone and terribly stupid and wondered if God was really listening. After an hour of resisting Satan, claiming God's victory over this place of sin, and asking for the salvation of the owner, he'd drive home.

Eight months from the first Saturday that he'd walked in, almost to the day, the place closed down. He never knew why. But God's Word is clear: the reason evil flourishes and reigns in our land is because righteousness is not defended.

—Steve Masterson in Out of the Locker Room

Respond:
What seems impossible to change in your community? Commit it to prayer—and see what God will do.

Thought to Apply:
We are so outnumbered there's only one thing to do. We must attack.

—Andrew Cunningham (British admiral, World War II)
