Men of Integrity, Mar/Apr 2001

Just-in-Time Delivery
This Week's Theme: Our Protector and Provider—Psalms 34-37
Monday, April 16

Key Bible Verse: The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry (Psalm 34:15).
Bonus Reading: Ps. 34:11-22

The Brooklyn Tabernacle rented space in the YWCA for two overcrowded years. We purchased a lot across the street in hopes of building one day. But then a 1,400-seat theater on Flatbush Avenue became available for only $150,000. We sold the lot at a profit. But to buy the theater, we had to sell the run-down Atlantic Avenue building too. Attempts to sell were fruitless; we risked losing our option on the theater.

At a Tuesday night prayer meeting we laid the problem before God, pleading for a last-minute rescue. On Wednesday afternoon the doorbell rang. There stood a well-dressed stranger, a Kuwaiti businessman it turned out. He walked in and looked around. I held my breath lest he look closely at crooked walls, questionable plumbing.

"What are you asking?" he said at last.

I cleared my throat and said weakly, "95 thousand."

He paused, then, "That's fair. We have a deal."

"How long will it take you to make arrangements at the bank?" I was still worried that our option would expire before we could close this deal.

"No bank," he answered abruptly. "Cash deal."

—Jim Cymbala in Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire

Respond:
What's a great need in your life? Pray boldly and specifically for God to meet that need.

Thought to Apply:
God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply.

—J. Hudson Taylor (China missionary, 19th century)

Adapted from: Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire (Zondervan, 1997).

0  Prayer for the Week 0

Lord, You see me, guide me, hold me close. Nowhere can I be lost from You. I am safe everywhere because You are near.
