The Bill Came Due
This Week's Theme: The Internet
Thursday, April 26, 2001

Key Bible Verse: For the grace of God … teaches us to say "no" to ungodliness and worldly passions (Titus 2:11-12a).
Bonus Reading:Titus 2:1-6, 11-14

Daryl couldn't believe the Visa bill. It hadn't seemed like so much at the time, but at $39.95 for 15 minutes of online viewing, it just kept adding up. Vicky was going to look at him with those big, hurt eyes and ask the one question he didn't want to answer.

Daryl told himself his online time was an earned bonus at the end of a hectic week for work well done. After all, Vicky and little Daryl had gone away to visit her family for two weeks. How could she fault him for finding a creative way to take care of his needs? It's not as though he was having an affair. He was merely a consumer paying for a service in the privacy of his home.

But now, the only way to pay the bill was to withdraw from savings. Vicky didn't keep track of the day-to-day stuff, but there's no way she'd overlook this much vanishing from their savings account. The whole thing had gotten out of hand. He'd just have to come clean and hope for the best. Good thing little Daryl was too young to understand what all the shouting would be about.

—Gregory L. Jantz in Hidden Dangers of the Internet

Respond:

If you are an online pornography user, have you confessed it to God, explained to your wife and asked for forgiveness?

Thought to Apply:

Habits, like fishhooks, are lots easier to get caught than uncaught.

—Frank A. Clark (writer) Adapted from: Hidden Dangers of the Internet (Shaw, 1998).

0Prayer for the Week

God, I am lost without You to save me. Please unentangle my feet, so I may run Your race with swiftness, and make me clean.
