Dragon Territory
This Week's Theme: Facing Our Fears
Tuesday, April 3, 2001

Key Bible Verse: I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you … that you forget the Lord your maker? (Isaiah 51:12).
Bonus Reading:Isa. 51:13-16

In the process of pursuing the enemy, a first-century battalion of Roman soldiers moved into what was then unknown territory. The mapmakers of that era designated the frightening, perhaps life-threatening lands beyond their own journeys by drawing dragons and sea monsters in those areas.

The commander of the battalion was unsure about whether to forge ahead into what might be danger or to turn back to familiar land, which would mean retreat. So he sent a dispatch to Rome with the following urgent message: "Please send new orders. We have marched off the map."

What kind of map are you following? As you live out your life, make daily decisions, and plan for the future, what kind of information do you have that will assure you success? Here are two even more important questions. Who drew the map you are following? And how do you know that it is accurate?

[Our Key Bible Verse] reminds us that if we follow God, the map will never be too small, for He is everywhere. That means that wherever you are, He has already been there and can lovingly guide you along the way.

As a child of the Father, you can never "march off the map."

—Mark Sutton in God's Man

Respond:

Answer Mark's four questions for yourself.

Thought to Apply:

God's never missed the runway through all the centuries of fearful fog.

—Charles R. Swindoll (seminary president, writer)
