Key Bible Verse: [B]rothers
what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel (Philippians 1:12b). Bonus Reading:Phil. 1:13-21
In 1984, Bridget Mergens, 17, and her friends wanted to start a weekly Bible club on the campus of Omaha's Westside High School. The principle vetoed it. Bridget appealed to the assistant school superintendent, then the school board; both said no. Bridget's struggle ended up in court. Eventually, the Supreme Court clearly affirmed that religious groups can assemble on public school properties.
Bridget's persistence paved the way. In 1989, a group of high school students in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area met around their school flagpole to pray for their campus. Next spring, Texas Baptist youth leaders, planning a summer conference, wanted to challenge teenagers to take the momentum of their conference into the school system. These two ideas came together.
On September 12, 1990 at 7:00 a.m., on 1,200 campuses in four states, 48,000 kids showed up around their flagpoles.
See You At The Pole had became a national phenomenon, involving more than 2 million students by 1995. The fall gathering for prayer and proclamation became the teens' acts of resistance and witness.

Ask God how He might want to use you to influence your world. Thought to Apply:
You are a Christian only so long as you constantly pose critical questions to the society you live in.
