I decided to pray for each of my five children for five minutes each dayno small commitment. The first week, I set my stopwatch and started praying for Hannah, our oldest. I'd made a prayer list for her, including her unique gifts and specific struggles in her life. Those items went pretty wellfor about two and a half minutes. Then I'd run out of things to say.
But instead of giving up, I continued focusing my thoughts on Hannah, sensing the presence of God, listening. Pretty soon I found myself praying things I hadn't even thought of, like giving her confidence, affirming her for her beauty, and seeing the joy in her character. It's as though another Father prayed through me by reminding me of so many more ways to pray for His daughter, who happened to be my daughter too.
When Hannah left for school that morning, I sent her away with a kiss and a report of what I'd prayed for her. She looked at me, astonished. "How did you know to pray those things for me, Dad?" I told her I believed God was blessing her through my prayers. She kissed me, her face glowing.
