Longing for Teammates This Week's Theme: Friends to Keep
Sunday, March 25, 2001
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me (2 Samuel 1:26a). Bonus Reading:2 Samuel 1:17-27
Pastor Mac, your talk on men and their friendships was a wake-up call. I've been married for 11 years, and can't remember the last time I did anything with a friend. My best friends were on the swim team at A College. For four years we worked out together almost every day of the week. We traveled and won and lost meets together. We were there for each other when there were injuries, and we helped each other through difficult classes. There wasn't anything we wouldn't have done for a teammate. Then one day it all ended. We graduated. It was kind of like a mass death. Aside from being in each other's weddings, we hardly ever saw each other again. Like everyone else, I got married, started working, raising children. And I never found another man (or men) where there could be a relationship like the ones at A.
"For all these years I've been disappointed in virtually every guy I met. Now I realize what I've been doing is comparing everyone to the kind of thing I had back at school."
