Safe in the Huddle This Week's Theme: Friends to Keep Rodney L. Cooper Tuesday, March 27, 2001
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves (Ecclesiastes 4:12a). Bonus Reading:Ecclesiastes 4:7-12
After Mike had been out of football for a while, I asked him what he missed most about pro ball. I was surprised by his answer. He said it was when they got in the huddle. I asked him why. He replied that in the huddle you felt safe. It was where you could get direction, support, and correction. It was where you could regroup for the next phase of the battle knowing ten other guys were there to help you win.
Mike said the huddle was a real refuge during away-games in hostile stadiums, when, besides the team, they were fighting the negative environment. It was a place he could go back to for encouragement to keep going.
Like Mike, every man needs a safe place where he can go and get what he needs to enter into the next phase of life's conflict. If a man's going to surviveno, winthe battles of his life, he must have a huddle of good men around him to cheer him on and bandage his wounds in the midst of the fight. He needs to know that he has men around him who will celebrate with him in the good times and do whatever it takes to bring help and healing in the bad times.
Rodney L. Cooper in Shoulder to Shoulder Respond:
Do you have a huddle? If not, ask God for one, and begin looking for that safe place. Thought to Apply:
A faithful friend is a strong defense; and he that hath found him hath found a treasure.
