Fumbled Pass
This Week's Theme: Introducing Christ
Michael Rydelnik
Sunday, May 20, 2001

Key Bible Verse: "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel" (Ezekiel 3:17).
Bonus Reading:Ezekiel 3:17-21

Leon Trotsky, who was both Jewish and second in command to Lenin during the Russian Revolution, fell into disfavor and was banished. While in exile in New York City, he lived for a while with a family of believers. After leaving their home, Trotsky was asked what they were like. "Those Christians are hypocrites!" he replied, "They went to church every Sunday morning, every Sunday night and every Wednesday night. And they didn't invite me to join them once!"

Those who had the opportunity to tell a Jewish man open to hearing about Jesus failed to speak up because they feared an unpleasant situation.

Gentile Christians are often reluctant to present the gospel to their Jewish friends because of a mistaken notion that they know the Scriptures inside out and will raise objections that can't be answered. Actually, most American Jews are quite secularized. Even those with a Jewish education often don't know the Hebrew Bible well. Generally Jewish people are amazed to encounter Gentiles who know the Jewish book better than they.

Lord, help me to both live my faith and be prepared to talk about it with those I encounter.
