Men of Integrity, May/Jun 2001

Skipping the Small Talk
This Week's Theme: Introducing Christ
Wednesday, May 23

Key Bible Verse: "What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?" (Matthew 16:27).
Bonus Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Tad Geiman, a Kansas mortgage company officer, was trying to get a loan approved when Tim Hein, an aggressive young branch manager, plopped down in his office chair. "How's it going?" Geiman asked.

"Everything's great—business is good," Hein responded.

Geiman, sensing things weren't quite that rosy, asked "So, Tim, how's it really going?"

That was all the prompting Hein needed. His marriage was struggling, he told Geiman; he drank too much, he suffered from anxiety attacks, he was enslaved by greed.

"Well, Tim, you're not going to find the significance and contentment you want where you're going," Geiman said.

"What do you mean?" Hein asked.

Geiman described his own life before he'd met Christ a few years earlier and how his life had changed. When asked, he told Hein how he could experience the same thing. "You have to pray and ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life," Geiman said. "Do you want that?"

"Yes," Hein said.

"Right now?" Geiman asked.

"Absolutely," Hein said. At that, Geiman, a bit shocked, shut his office door, and the two men prayed together.
