Golfer of Men
This Week's Theme: Introducing Christ
Friday, May 25
Key Bible Verse: For in him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). Bonus Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:6-9
In 1992, Atlanta travel destination consultant Ted Sprague began intentionally using golfing as a way to introduce others to Christ, making people his priorityrather than pars. "Over a four- to five-hour period of playing golf and enjoying God's creation," he says, "I'm relaxed and many times have experienced the joy of sharing my faith with others. If [today's Key Bible Verse] is true, why should the golf course be excluded?"
"I see myself as a 'golfer of men,' he says, "much like Jesus told His disciples to be fishers of men. Most people are pleased when someone shows interest in them. Many tell me, 'Nobody's ever listened to me before.'
"On the front nine, I ask common-sense questions, building rapport. On the back nine I ask about their challenges in business or what they see as keys to success. When I get to heavy questions, I tell about bumps and bruises I've experienced in business and life. I talk about the bottom line of life, a personal relationship with Christ, and offer them a booklet like Steps to Peace with God. How they respond is not as important as being a part of the process."

Respond:
Is God calling me to become intentional about my witness?
Thought to Apply:
Our task as laymen is to live our personal communion with Christ with such intensity as to make it contagious.
