Key Bible Verse: There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). Bonus Reading:Ruth 1:15-18
I used to have incredibly painful migraine headaches. My doctor gave me a prescription for a painkiller that I ate like chocolate chips. One day I was surprised to see on the label that the medication was a barbiturate. Months later the medicine burned a hole in my stomach, and I was hospitalized.
The first night, as I lay in bed with tubes sticking out of my nose, I awakened to see one of my best friends, Bill, sitting at my bedside. Bill is as busy as any four people I know, but there he was. I tried to talk, but he told me to rest. I kept talking anyway. Finally, he said that if I didn't stop talking, he was going to leave. I kept talking, so he left.
I'll never forget the message he sent by sitting quietly next to my bed when I was asleep. He's a true friend. He was with me when there was no agenda. He gave me some hang time.
Don't fill up every waking minute with activities. Be sure to allow some hang time in your schedule to be with the people you care about the most, and those who need you the most. You don't have to be on the run. Running is a choice. And it creates a lot of pressure.
Patrick Morley in The Seven Seasons of a Man's Life
Respond:
Do I spend hang time with the people I really care about?
Thought to Apply:
When God created time, he made plenty of it.

Lord, help me live my life as Jesus did, with deep purpose but not under pressure.
