Finding a Silver Lining Theme for the Week: The Job Market

Key Bible Verse: "Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15). Bonus Reading: Philippians 3:7-8
When a man loses his job, there is something of his identity taken away from him. One of the things unemployment does is bring you face to face with the real you rather than the imagined you that you're hiding behind. And that can be a good thing.
The tendency is to say, "How can I find something as good if not better in terms of material things than the job that I had?" rather than saying, "Is there an opportunity for me to totally reorder my life?"
Maybe I've been working for Bear Stearns, making more money than is good for me, but that job is not where my heart is. That's not where God wants me to be. There's something better that God has in mind.
We can use this as a time to do some exploring: "What do I want to do with the rest of my life? What does God want me to do with it?"
It may be that you end up your life as the stockbroker who gives up the six-figure salary in order to teach in a New York public school. Or there is a passion inside to start your own business. And that would free you up to do certain other things in terms of your Christian witness.

Respond:
What "something better" might God be nudging me toward?
Thought to Apply:
Peace is the deliberate adjustment of my life to the will of God.

Lord, thank You that You have or will direct me to a job that satisfies because it matches the way You made me.
