Kingdom Cleaners Theme for the Week: Hearts that Serve
Sunday, September 2, 2001

Key Bible Verse: "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you" (John 13:15). Bonus Reading: John 13:1-17
In the heart of New York City is a dry cleaning establishment that my wife, Gail, used to frequent almost weekly.
"In the city you get used to being treated as if you're nothing in a lot of businesses," Gail tells friends. "But then you come into this store, and you're greeted as if they'd been waiting all day for you. They always have a cheerful word, despite the fact that the cleaning machinery makes the store unbearably hot and humid. By the third time I'd stopped in, the men knew my name. They always have my cleaning ready, and the quality of the work is excellent.
"One day, I said to Larry, who works the counter, 'You really make it a treat to come here. What's the secret behind your upbeat mood?' He surprised me when he said, 'I'm a Christian; I figure that's how Christians are supposed to treat customers.' "
Hundreds return every week to a place stamped with the presence of Christ. When you take your clothes there, you walk into a little piece of the kingdom. A servant who works makes that possible.
