Mow Power
Theme for the Week: Hearts that Serve
Monday, September 3, 2001

Key Bible Verse: Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves (Romans 12:10).
Bonus Reading: Romans 12:3-13

I broke a belt on my lawn mower. When I went to replace it, I learned that the part I needed was on back order.

On Saturday, I mentioned my dilemma to Clay Brogdon, one of the guys in my discipleship group, and asked him if I could borrow his mower.

"Sure," he responded.

"I'll come over and pick it up on Tuesday," I told him.

On Monday morning, I was enjoying the Memorial Day holiday as much as a man can when he knows his yard needs mowing, when to my surprise I heard lawn mower sounds.

I looked out the window and couldn't believe what my eyes saw. My entire yard was covered with men and their mowers! It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.

Clay had rounded up the guys from his home group, and they had the entire yard mowed in just 20 minutes. They loaded up their mowers, and off they went on their way like the superheroes they were!

I thought to myself, I now know what it feels like to have Jesus mow my yard! After all, without Jesus, I would literally be in deep weeds!

—Randy Gravitt in Discipleship Journal

My Response:

I remember a time that serving someone else brought me true joy. Here's what happened . …

Thought to Apply:

There are many of us who are willing to do great things for the Lord, but few of us are willing to do the little things.

—Dwight L. Moody
