With a major deadline looming, writer's block had a hold of me, and I was frustrated. Copy for a direct-mail letter was due the next morning, and I had no idea how to finish the project.
Stan Jackson popped his head into my office, and though the evening hours were slipping by and dinner was soon to be on his table, he offered to brainstorm various approaches to get the creative juices flowing.
A couple of hours later, I knew exactly where I was headed, and my fingers once again flew across the keyboard to iron out the letter.
Because of Stan's unselfish commitment to me as a colleague, I made my deadline, and our boss was pleased.
To me, Stan epitomized one of the key qualities of a servant, that of sacrifice. He put aside his personal agenda for the moment and gave me his undivided attention to help me at my point of need.
Though I no longer work in the same place, Stan has demonstrated that same characteristic on numerous occasions during the past eight years.
