The Connector Theme for the Week: Hearts that Serve Joyce Sackett Friday, September 7, 2001

Key Bible Verse: Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others (1 Peter 4:10). Bonus Reading: 1 Peter 4:8-11
Since [my husband] John is by nature outgoing, glad to be a friend to all, he knows many people. So he often serves by being a connector. When he sees or hears of an opportunity to serve, he can call to mind someone who might want to meet that need. Of course, he gets involved, too.
Intok and Jung, a young Korean couple with three children, lived near us. Intok, a doctor, was in training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital for a year.
John helped Intok to understand the gospel and put his trust in Christ. Jung was already a believer, and both were eager to grow in Christ, so we began to meet with them in our home for Bible study.
When John visited them one evening, he saw that they had no furniture. He called a friend who runs a thrift shop. This friend donated a truckload of nice furniture to Intok's family, which John picked up and delivered.
Philippians 4:5 in The Message says, "Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you're on their side, working with them."
We can serve by being a friend, showing interest in others and what is going on in their lives.
Joyce Sackett in Discipleship Journal My Response:
One person whose needs I could get involved in meeting is .
Thought to Apply:
Never allow the thought, "I am of no use where I am." You certainly can be of no use where you are not.
