Professional bowling veteran David Ozio has earned PBA Player of the Year (1991) and Hall of Fame induction (1995). And he wrote a long-selling instructional book called Bowl Like a Pro. The Beaumont, Texas, native travels seven to eight months a year pursuing his sport. "It's a tough lifestyle," he says, "and the peer pressure on players is great."
When he first came on the Tour in 1978, Ozio said he had a faith in Christ, but not a strong belief, living for the moment and drifting. God got his attention in a dramatic way in 1980, he says, when his wife died while in the hospital awaiting childbirth. The baby also died.
"While driving home, beating on the steering wheel, and screaming at God, I came to a full commitment of His grace and love for me," Ozio says. "I began to attend a Bible study regularly, then I was asked to take it over. I don't feel like I was ready, but God has used me to help bring Christianity to bowling and help players step out of their shell. A lot of young players ask me questions. I've led the Bible study since the 1980s and talked to many individuals about the Lord.""
