Theme for this Week: Tapping in to God's Power
Monday, December 3

Key Bible Verse: When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need (Psalm 138:3).
Bonus Reading: Acts 4: 23-31

As a young attorney and new Christian, I was at the county courthouse to argue one of my first cases. I faced a veteran trial lawyer who needled, attacked, and undid his opponents. Minutes before starting time, his arrogance, combined with my inexperience, gave me a severe case of pretrial jitters.

I felt a strong need to pray, but didn't think bowing my head in front of my unsaved client would enhance his confidence in me. So I rushed to find a quiet corner where I could pray aloud. But the entire courthouse was jam-packed. The lawyers' lounge had no empty seats; even the men's room stalls were all occupied. Spotting an available pay phone in the hallway, I dashed to it, lifted the receiver and, without depositing any coins, began talking to God about my great uncertainties, reciting His assurances to provide peace and wisdom. After several minutes, I relaxed, focused on what I could control, left the rest to God, and hung up. I slipped into the courtroom just as the judge entered.

We can't always expect the same result, but on that day the more experienced lawyer lost the case in spite of his intimidation, and my client was complimentary.

My Response:
One thing I get uptight about that I need to turn over to God is . …

Thought to Apply:
