Close Call
Theme for this Week: Tapping in to God's Power
Friday, December 7
Key Bible Verse: Their prayer offered in faith will heal the sick (James 5:15). Bonus Reading: James 5:13-18
Chris Milbrath 25 years old, 6' 5" tall, and healthy was working with Co-Mission in Ukraine. He got a stomachache that wouldn't quit. Eventually a doctor reported, "Your appendix ruptured. Unless you have surgery immediately, you'll die." A second opinion would have been reassuring, but since the hospital hadn't paid its phone bill, the phone was dead.
The surgery didn't go well. Infection threatened Chris's life. In a delirious stupor, Chris prayed and praised God.
Halfway around the world, an older woman, a friend and supporter, woke in the middle of the night. Without knowing why, she felt an irresistible burden to get out of bed and pray for her young friend. Later, adjusting for time-zone differences, Chris and the friend confirmed that this occurred just when his life hung by a thread.
Within 24 hours, word got through to a medical missions group in Moscow that surgery had gone poorly and that the hospital lacked the resources to save his life. A small jet just happened to be available and was sent to airlift him to Geneva, where one of the best surgeons in Switzerland just happened to be available for additional surgerywhich no doubt saved Chris's life.

My Response:
I could improve my availability to God as an intercessor if .
Thought to Apply:
Our prayers lay down the track on which God's power can come. Like a mighty locomotive, his power is irresistible, but it cannot reach us without rails.
