Moving Off Dead Center
Theme for this Week: Getting Vocal
Harold Sala
Saturday, December 1, 2001

Q. When I bring up my belief in Christ, and it isn't appreciated, what should I do?

A. Most of us give up quite quickly when a colleague or a friend whom we've been talking to about Jesus Christ begins to give us the cold shoulder. Quickly we think, "Religion is a personal matter. He has his and I have mine!" Nothing causes enemies quicker than talking about religion or politics, right? That's what we often tend to think.

But at some point we have to decide, "Is what I believe real? Did Jesus Christ really rise from the dead as Scripture says? Is there any other way that people can get to heaven?" If Jesus came to provide a way to heaven and there's no other way you can get there, you'd better be concerned about your neighbor or friend or the person you work with.

But I feel so inadequate.

You touch the lives of people who'll never be reached by Billy Graham or a minister. You rub shoulders with men and women daily. You, as a believer, are the only one who represents Jesus Christ to them. If you've talked to someone, and your witness has been rejected, remember the man who led Anacleto Lacanialo (see Friday's reading) to the Lord. And be encouraged!

How do I get started?

Make a list of five friends who need Jesus Christ. Put it in your billfold or diary and begin to pray for them every day. And if you're uncertain about how to lead someone to Christ, talk to your pastor or youth minister. Tell him you want training so you can bring your friends to the Lord.
