Dad died after I'd been working with him for only a year in our small family business. He'd worn all the hats. At 26, I felt ill-prepared to take the helm. So I set out to hire someone to help run the company's marketing.
I contacted college classmates and business acquaintances I thought might be interestedto no avail. Our fledgling company seemed too risky a prospect for them. I began to earnestly pray that God would send the right person for the job.
The answer came quickly and unexpectedly. Bob Cook, a marketing executive for one of our customers, was traveling with me to evaluate a potential supplier. As we conversed on the plane, Bob began asking about our company's future. To my surprise, he expressed interest in coming to work for us. He had the exact skills I was looking for. God's answer to my prayer was seated right next to me!
My 35-year working relationship with Bob continues. That providential discussion impressed on me the effectiveness of consulting God first on any company issue.
