Key Bible Verse: Glory and honor to God forever and ever. He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen (1 Timothy 1:17). Bonus Reading: 1 Timothy 1:12-17
Dennis Kinlaw tells the story of a man who came to Wilmore, Kentucky, to preach at Asbury College's chapel.
The chapel was packed. The preacher was speaking powerfully when he abruptly stopped, closed with a short prayer, and ran from the auditorium.
He later explained that God suddenly had made him aware of the fact that while the audience was hanging on his every word, he was proud that he was in control and was the center of attention, rather than God. When he left the auditorium, he went to his room, fell on his knees, and asked God to forgive him for assuming the glory that belongs only to God.
While writing today's passage in his letter to Timothy, Paul realized his readers might think he was claiming credit for God's work in his life, so he added the great proclamation of [today's Key Bible Verse].
Your assignment in serving is to point men and women to Jesus Christ, not to yourselves. Then, when you are not around, they will trust in the power of God rather than be at a loss because their mentors are not available to them.
