Men of Integrity, Nov/Dec 2001

Set Up by God
Theme for this Week: Getting Vocal
Thursday, November 29

Key Bible Verse: We're only servants. Through us God caused you to believe. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us (1 Corinthians 3:5).
Bonus Reading: 1 Cor. 3:1-15

Whoa, you mean I didn't lead somebody to Christ? No. [According to today's Key Bible Verse, our encounters are] assignments, appointments. God has set them up for us. God has our Daytimer. It's no mistake you work where you work, live where you live, or run into the people you run into. Divine appointment.

Three weeks ago I stood outside a Denny's restaurant in Walnut Creek, California, where God had done an amazing thing. One night two buddies and I were trying to lead a guy to Jesus. He had been coming to our group, and we'd been telling him the Christ story. I remember sitting in that booth that night, saying to Ron, "Are you ready to give your life to Christ?" I'll never forget the disappointment when he said no.

We said, "Well, keep coming, okay? Keep listening. Keep hanging with us." We got up to leave. As we started to walk out, a man sitting alone in the next booth stood up and stopped us. He said, "I couldn't help overhearing the things you were talking about. I was wondering if you could help me come to know God?"

Right restaurant, wrong booth.

My Response:
Since I can't always guess who is ripe for the gospel, I'll . …

Thought to Apply:
Most people are brought to faith in Christ not by argument for it but by exposure to it.
