Men of Integrity, Nov/Dec 2001

The Pay-off
Theme for this Week: Getting Vocal
Friday, November 30

Key Bible Verse: The believers who had fled Jerusalem went everywhere preaching the Good News about Jesus (Acts 8:4).
Bonus Reading: Acts 8:1-3; 11:19-21

A generation ago, a missionary served in the Philippines, a Catholic country where Protestant missionaries weren't always appreciated. He began to tell Anacleto Lacanilao that he needed to be born again. Lacanilao

didn't buy this new concept and shrugged off the witness of his friend, who wasn't rebuffed but kept coming back. Seven, eight, nine times he came to the Lacanilao home and urged him to invite Jesus Christ into his life.

On the eleventh visit, Anacleto told the unwelcome visitor, "If you come back one more time, I'm going to kill you." It wasn't idle talk. What happened? The man came back! That was when Dad Lacanilao became a believer in Jesus Christ. He later said, "When he came back the twelfth time, I figured there must be something to this experience he's talking about. I'd better listen!"

Today, he and his wife are in heaven, and their eight children are all serving the Lord. Son Mike is the former president of Febias College of the Bible and head of Back to the Bible Ministries there. Another directed Youth For Christ. It all happened because one witness didn't stop when he faced opposition.

—Harold Sala in Heroes

My Response:
Realizing that initial resistance to the gospel isn't the final word, I'm resolved to . …

Thought to Apply:
An evangelist is a nobody who is seeking to tell everybody about Somebody who can help change anybody.
