What Kept R. C. Going
Theme for the Week: Vote of Confidence
Sunday, November 4
Key Bible Verse: I have the highest confidence in you, and my pride in you is great (2 Corinthians 7:4). Bonus Reading: Hebrews 6:7-12
R. C. Sproul's eighth-grade English teacher was returning a homework assignment. To R. C.'s surprise, she read his composition to the entire class and posted the paper on the bulletin board as an example for everyone. Beneath the grade she had written, "R. C., don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't write."
When R. C. was working on one of the many books he has written as a teacher and theologian, his editor said to him, "You've never been through our copy-editing procedures. Don't be discouraged if they make numerous critical suggestions." When he got the manuscript back from the copy editor, he figured out by counting the number of corrections on the first ten pages and averaging it out for the whole manuscript that there were approximately ten thousand critical marks.
He wrote, "That should be enough to convince the most recalcitrant egomaniac that he ought to give up. But there they were, the words of my teacher, 'Never let anyone tell you that you can't write.' And here I am againwriting my fool fingers off."
