Key Bible Verse: Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green (Psalm 92:14). Bonus Reading:Psalm 91:1416
During World War II, Lou Zamperini spent 47 days adrift on a life raft on the Pacific, followed by two and a half years in a Japanese prison camp. These experiences took a devastating toll on his health. He reckoned they took ten years off his life. Lou began making healthy choices in nutrition and physical fitness "to get those ten years back."
"I started by going to a gym every day to pedal a stationary bicycle," he remembers. But, "After five minutes I'd look at my watch and feel like I'd been there for two hours. Then I started to take my bike out on the street, and I could ride for hours and feel like it was five minutes." Now Lou engages in fitness activities he really enjoysrunning, hiking, mountain climbing, skiing, and skateboarding.
Lou manages a senior citizen center, and says, "At work, I'm up and down the stairs all day long." Not only does he have more energy on the ski slopes than most college kids, he's continually improving. "At 74 I'm doing things in skiing I couldn't do when I was 64," Lou says. "Oh, I've got my aches and pains, but that doesn't bother me. Not when I'm having fun!"
