Oh, Brother!
Theme for this Week: Doorways to Faith
Thursday, February 14

Key Bible Verses: So I am eager to … preach God's Good News. … It is the power of God at work (Romans 1:15–16). Bonus Reading:Hebrews 4:12–16

I was running for freshman class representative and knocking on dorm doors. I rapped on one with a "Jesus Saves" sticker. It opened to two smiling guys with crosses around their necks. "Hey, brother, I'm Barry" one said. "And I'm Steve," added the other.

"I'm Roy," I replied, "I like your sticker." That was all the opening they needed.

"If you died right now," Steve asked, "would you go to heaven?"

"Well, I guess that's for God to say, but I'd hope so."

"Oh, brother, don't you know?" asked Barry.

They asked if I knew about The Four Spiritual Laws—I did not. If I was in a campus Bible study—I wasn't. I extracted myself by promising to attend a program a few nights later.

When I went, the speaker asked, "Do you want to give God control of every part of your life?" The idea was frightening. He had us bow our heads: "If you're not 100 percent committed to God, raise your hand." I raised it. "If you want God to change your life, now's the time." I struggled, but tired of messing things up, I went down front. Barry and Steve were there, hands on my shoulders, praying. Through tears of sadness at my sin came tears of joy.

My Response: I'm grateful for _____, who got "in my face" with the Good News.

Thought to Apply: This is my business.

—D.L. Moody (After the evangelist asked a stranger "Sir, are you a Christian?" and was told, "You mind your own business")

0Prayer for the Week

I thank you, God, that although Christ is the only way to You, You draw men to Him in many ways.
