If you're willing to fight for sexual purity, an important step is finding an accountability partner. Enlist a male friend, perhaps someone older and respected in the church, to encourage you in the heat of battle, pray for you, and ask you the tough questions.

Here's how it might go: Nathan asks the church men's ministry for an accountability partner. Ron, a long-time Christian with experience in this area, is tapped. Ron calls Nathan up and asks, "How's it going, Nathan?" (Both know this refers to masturbation.)

Nathan answers, "I plead the fifth."

"Uh-oh. Talk to me."

"It's been happening every other day for two weeks."

"Are you reading the Bible?" Ron asks.

"Yes."

"Are you praying?"

"Yes."

"So what's the problem?"

"Too much TV—HBO and Baywatch reruns."

Following this conversation, Ron begins contacting Nathan daily because the problem has accelerated. Sometimes Nathan needs to be encouraged, sometimes to be challenged to do what's right. But in the end it comes down to whether Nathan has made a decision for purity.
