At the 2000 Olympic women's gymnastic competition, after 30 or so competitors for the "all-around" title had vaulted, one said she didn't think the vault felt right—it seemed too low. Many who'd already performed hadn't done well. They felt something was wrong, too.

They sent the judges out to measure the vault apparatus. Sure enough, it was about two inches low! These were the Olympic games, and no one had checked!

But then who would have vaulted a "gazillion" times in preparation for the games? Who do you think would be most sensitive to the height of the vault? By constant use they'd trained themselves to distinguish the proper height of the vault. It isn't surprising that a vaulter would catch the variation between right and wrong.

I began to see it from God's viewpoint. When God was preparing Joshua to lead the people into the promised land [in today's Key Bible Verse], He stressed the discernment of constant use. Who will be the most sensitive to a variation from God's Word, His plan, His purposes? Those of us who, by constant use, have trained ourselves to distinguish good from evil.
