Downpour Driving Theme for this Week: Putting Purpose in Your Life Friday, March 1
Key Bible Verse: So we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen (2 Corinthians 4:18). Bonus Reading:2 Corinthians 4:1-18
In Texas they’re called “gully washers” or “toad chokers”—those violent downpours that seem to leave no space between the drops. Being on the road in one of these cloudbursts gives new meaning to the term “driving rain.” Your wipers can’t clear the windshield fast enough. And there’s no “deluge” setting after “fast” on your wipers!
The idea is to look past the wipers and out to the road ahead of you. To focus on the wipers, no matter how bad the torrent, is a bad idea. This is not an advanced concept; this is Driver’s Ed. Common Sense 101.
Why then do we live our lives focusing on the struggling wipers? At times the downpour of trials is so heavy, the rain of pain so intense that we can’t see beyond the next few feet. Still, we should never take our eyes off of where we’re going. Why is it that when we encounter a personal deluge, we take our eyes off the road ahead and become obsessed with only what’s directly in our view?
