Theme for this Week: Caring about Coworkers

Key Bible Verse: When God's children are in need, be the one to help them out (Romans 12:13). Bonus Reading: Romans 12:9–13

One young man in our law firm appeared more interested in nightlife than law practice. I went into his office one day and began to talk about my perspective on success. Because I was a senior partner, he was taken aback and noticeably tense, waiting for me to get to the point.

I said, "You know, Allen, you're potentially one of the best lawyers ever to work for this firm. There's nothing any of the other partners around here are doing you couldn't do someday. But there are probably three or four principles you need to understand if you really want to find success. If you ever want to discuss those with me, give me a call."

I thanked him for his time, went back to my office, and waited for the knock on my door. Sure enough, moments later Allen was in front of me. "Say, Phil, you know those principles you were talking about? Well, how'd you like to go to lunch?" I told him that was a great idea, and developed a mentoring relationship soon after. It began by simply talking to him about the things he'd need to know to become a competent lawyer; it led to him giving his life to Jesus Christ.

Thought to Apply: Kindness has converted more sinners than zeal, eloquence, or learning.
