Heaven’s Headlines
Theme for this Week: Make Yourself Available
Saturday, March 9

Q. If heaven had a daily newspaper, what would make the front page?

A. The headlines would read quite differently than our earthly tabloids. The good deeds that don’t get credit on earth would make the front page. Some headlines might read “Rod K. Mows Neighbor’s Grass,” “Max M. Delivers Brownies to Enemy,” or “Dan B. Changes Tire for Stranded Motorist.” I’ve omitted the last names until they are rewarded in heaven!

We’ve got to start think-ing differently about what matters to God. Did you know that the little things you do please Him? This means that anyone, including you, can make the headlines in heaven. It all depends on which world you love most. God not only wants to save us from hell, but also to reward us in heaven.

So what will God reward on Judgment Day?

Here’s some things that will rate—if they’re performed out of love, kindness, and a pure heart toward God instead of for the reward:

  1. Serving faithfully (Luke 19:17)
  2. Loving those who don’t love in return (Matthew 5:46)
  3. Working faithfully in earthly jobs (Colossians 3:22-24)
  4. Humbling ourselves (Matthew 18:4)
  5. Doing little things for others (Matthew 10:42)
  6. Helping the poor (Proverbs 19:17)
  7. Caring for widows and orphans (James 1:27)

You won’t make any headlines in earth’s newspapers if you do the things I’ve listed. But that’s okay. Earth’s newspapers are used to wrap dead fish. But heaven’s headlines will be remembered forever.
