Q. What's lacking in our commitment to Christ? A. Although our churches are full, we're having little impact on our culture. God has called us to permeate society with the message of Christ. This must become our passionate commitment. Ironically, many of us have become like the world and are sending confusing signals. Paul's advice to Timothy (in 2 Timothy 4:5) sums it up: "But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don't be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at bringing others to Christ." "Keep a clear mind." Awareness: John Stott observes that Christian leaders throughout history who made a difference for Christ were students of their contemporary culture and immersed in the Scriptures. So they were able to bridge the gap, giving a powerful word from God for their culture. Urgency: My friend Blaire Cooke often challenges Christians with, "Life is but a brief moment in history lodged between two vast eternities. What are you going to do with your moment?"

"Don't be afraid of suffering." Perhaps you're like an incredibly gifted man I know. When the pressures come, he "runs." Then he wonders why his ministry has little impact. One day I said to him, "God won't give you the platform you think you deserve because you won't stick around long enough for Him to develop in you the character you need to handle it."

"Work at bringing others to Christ." Timothy probably wasn't a gifted evangelist. Yet Paul wanted to make sure he was involved in introducing men and women to the Savior.
