Men of Integrity, May/June 2002

Not so Cold Call
Theme of the Week: How Men Hear
Wednesday, June 12

Key Bible Verse: We are Christ's ambassadors, and God is using us to speak to you (2 Corinthians 5:20). Bonus Reading: John 6:43–45

A tire salesman arrived at Chuck's office without an appointment. Although busy, Chuck gave Bob some tire sizes and asked him to get back with a quote.

Two weeks later Bob called for an appointment. Chuck said to come on over. "But, right after that my file server crashed," Chuck recalled, "so I was focused on fixing that problem. Nevertheless, Bob arrived and we started talking about tires and also, unexpectedly, about Bob's personal life. I told him about the peace and hope I had because of Christ. With tears in his eyes, Bob told me, 'I'm a miserable, angry man.' I explained who Jesus was and why He came. Then I bought some tires, and Bob left.

"The next time Bob visited, I learned that after he left my office, sitting in his car he asked Jesus into his life. Immediately he felt his anger leave. It was so real, he told his wife; later his coworkers saw the difference, too."

Chuck also learned that Bob's first stop at his office was unplanned. He was having a terrible day and decided to quit and go home. "But he said he was drawn here, sensing that there'd be something for him. That something was Someone—Jesus."

—Ron Hutchcraft in Called to Greatness

My Response: Today, I'll stand ready to say something about Jesus.

Thought to Apply: The people sitting next to us on a plane or in a classroom are not interruptions … They are there by divine appointment
