I was speaking in Colorado on "Cultivating, Sowing, and Reaping." A young woman approached afterwards and asked, "Joe, do you remember me?" I didn't.
"I used to baby-sit your son. Two years ago someone shared Christ with me, and I became a believer. But the reason I trusted Christ was because of what I saw ten or fifteen years ago"
"You're kidding!" I said.
"No. I couldn't figure out what made your family so different from mine. After I put your kids to bed, I'd go into the den and pull books off the shelf to try to find out what made you tick. Is what you said today why you used to wax my dad's car?"
Her dad loved automobiles but couldn't do much to maintain them because of a heart condition. I'd ask him to give me his car keys, then I'd wash and wax his auto. He'd pull up a folding chair and we'd talk and talk. Not about spiritual things. He wasn't ready.
I'm delighted to report that the gospel has penetrated that family unit. It started with a can of wax, a listening ear, and a curious baby-sitter.
