Force Behind the Helm Theme for this Week: Prayer Cover Sunday, May 12
Key Bible Verse: "Plead with the Lord our God to save us from the Philistines!" they begged Samuel (1 Samuel 7:8). Bonus Reading:1 Samuel 7:711; 12:23
D. L. Moody once made the this categorical assertion: "Every work of God can be traced to a kneeling figure."
Captain Robert Clarke and his son James owned and sailed a fishing schooner in the North Atlantic.
One night near the Arctic Circle, the darkness descended, the fog closed in, and the seas began to run high.
James was at the wheel doing his best to keep the schooner on course.
His father, standing close by, reminded his son that it was about this time that the boy's mother at home was offering up her prayers for themto the God who holds the waves in His hand.
After a brief pause, Captain Clarke cried out, "All hands on deck, put a close reef in the main sail, let her run the jibwe have got to get that prayer answered!"
What does it mean to you when you know someone is praying on your behalf? If we are convinced that prayer works, what a privilege it is for us when someone we love seeks God for us!
