Sometimes we don't hear God's call because we're expecting the dramatic. Take John, a software engineer in Dallas who stumbled on a new application for technology in the utilities industry. By day, he consulted with a utility company in Oklahoma City, on-site for weeks at a time, customizing software for the company's applications. By night, he worked on his own software idea.
Once he had a prototype completed, he began calling his network of friends for sources of financing. All the while, he worked under great stress, dividing his attention between the Oklahoma City client, who wanted 50 to 60 hours of his time each week, and his family, who wanted him to get his new venture off the ground so he could stop traveling and be home with them.
One day, at the end of a long discussion about the software prototype, John's advisor-friend asked, "Ever thought about asking that key client in Oklahoma City, who already thinks you hung the moon, if he'd be interested in funding your new software venture?"
The question hit him upside the head like a baseball bat. Indeed, why not? He got back on the plane to go ask. They were. Deal done.
