Why Men Become Workaholics
Theme of the Week: Balancing Our Work
Sunday, August 25
Key Bible Verse: Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom (Psalm 90:12). Bonus Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1-13
There are a thousand reasons someone can never leave his office. One man may be trying to accumulate assets. (I used to struggle with having to own something before I could enjoy it. At a nice vacation spot, I'd think, How could I buy a building lot?) He needs to fall in love with Jesus to move him away from falling in love with things.
A second man works long hours because he hates to be home. Maybe his wife nags him about the things he won't change and should change, or they've allowed the spark to go out in their marriage. He needs to focus on better serving his wife.
A third man works all the time because of a fear of losing everything. He needs to realize there is no security in temporal things, only in eternity with God.
A fourth man works constantly, driving himself because he had a lousy father who never allowed him to feel he measured up. To make the attitude changes necessary for spiritual growth, he needs to talk through his relationships with his earthly father and his heavenly Father.
