Out of Joint
Theme of the Week: Balancing Our Work
Wednesday, August 28

Key Bible Verses: The Lord cares about our bodies . …So you must honor God with your body (1 Corinthians 6:13, 20). Bonus Reading:3 John 2

Ronnie, a CPA, had been given an impossible deadline. The long hours wore down his health, and Ronnie got a bad strain of chest flu. "I kept driving myself," he remembers. One afternoon, "It got so bad that I had to hold the door jamb to cough."

The next morning, Ronnie had a 7:00 A.M. breakfast meeting. Although clearly sick, Ronnie said he had to go. His wife, Rhonda, pleaded with him to see a doctor. But he refused. That's when Rhonda gave him an ultimatum. "If you go to this meeting, then you're telling me your job is more important than our marriage and your health. If you go, our relationship will be destroyed!"

Gee, she means it, Ronnie thought. She's never said anything like that before. He stayed home and went to see the doctor, where he received proper care. "The doctor told me what a jerk I was to be working while deathly ill. Then he popped my ribs back in place. It turned out that during one of my cough attacks I had torn ligaments and pulled two ribs out of joint. I was put on half-day work, and when I returned to the job, my boss told me what an idiot I was to jeopardize my health."

My Response: Next time I'm driving myself, I'll ask how God can retake the wheel.

Thought to Apply: You will break the bow if you keep it always bent.

—Greek Proverb

0Prayer for the Week

Heavenly Father, may my children be drawn to you because they've been warmed by their earthly father's love.
