God's Word to Randy
Theme of the Week: Following Directions
Wednesday, July 31

When I'm stewing about a former boss whom I detest and who still troubles me, God's loving presence makes me feel silly about holding such a grudge and amazed at my inability to move on. Following a time of meditation, during which I encountered my bittersweet self, I opened the New Testament to Romans.
The section I read talked about making my life a "living and holy sacrifice." I felt inspired; God was showing me who I really want to be. I prayed, "God, I want this level of consecration. I give myself to you—body, soul, mind, and strength." I wanted the sentimental consecration—but God trapped me into putting legs on my wishes.
Several verses later I get hit by one of the applications on how to be a living sacrifice: "Do your part to live in peace with everyone." Reading this line made me want to throw off this impediment to knowing God more deeply, this hindrance to my own personal growth.
The objective Word of God as shared by Paul became the living and powerful Word of God to Randy that day, and I began a serious process of letting go of my petty anger and bitterness.
