Key Bible Verses: Jesus replied, "Your problem is that you don't know the Scriptures … You have made a serious error" (Mark 12:24, 27). Bonus Reading: Matthew 12:1-8; 19:1-6; 21:15-16; Mark 12:1-12, 18-27

Read for pleasure," says our world, "or read to advance in your occupation. But don't let anyone—especially a book—tell you what to think!" Jesus made clear, however, that God has revealed His will and mind precisely in a book, which must be read and understood.

When the Pharisees criticized His disciples for eating grain on the Sabbath, Jesus responded, "Haven't you ever read in the Scriptures [1 Samuel 21] what King David did … ?" Jesus answered the Pharisees' test concerning divorce: "Haven't you read the Scriptures? … They record [in Genesis 1] that from the beginning 'God made them male and female.'"

When the religious leaders objected to children praising Jesus, He responded, "Haven't you ever read the Scriptures [Psalm 8]? For they say 'You have taught children … '" He countered their rejection of Him by quoting from Psalm 118: "'The stone rejected by the builders has now become the cornerstone.'"

Confronting the Sadducees about the resurrection, Jesus referred to Exodus 3, hitting hard, as recorded in [our Key Bible Verses]. If reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body, then the believer in Jesus Christ must do his calisthenics.
