Relief for Justin Theme of the Week: Taking the Long View Monday, October 7
Key Bible Verse: We, too, wait anxiously for that day when God will give us our full rights as his children, including the new bodies he has promised us (Romans 8:23). Bonus Reading:2 Corinthians 5:1-9
A friend's son, Justin, suffers from Tourette's syndrome, a genetic disorder whose victims experience uncontrollable body twitches and utter odd noises. Medication helps moderate the spasms, but there's no cure.
One day when my friend was traveling, his wife took Justin and his two sisters to a burger restaurant. Just as the hamburgers were unwrapped, the syndrome began to affect Justin. As his noises and jerks grew more obvious, the mother decided it was best to leave and eat at home.
As they left the restaurant, one sister, her eyes brimming, asked, "Mommy, is Justin always going to be this way?"
Later, the mother related the hurting daughter's question to her husband. "What did you answer?" he asked.
Turning her face to the wall to hide the tears that came in a rush, she said, "I had no answer."
"Oh yes, you did," said the husband as he held her. "You can say there'll come a time when Justin will get his inheritance from God. He'll not hurt or cry anymore. Justin loves the Lord Jesus, and God says he'll redeem his children's bodies as well as their souls. Justin won't always be this way."
