Key Bible Verses: Never pay back evil for evil to anyone Do your part to live in peace with everyone (Romans 12:17-18). Bonus Reading:Genesis 33:1-11
By this time, Alomar was playing for the Cleveland Indians. John Hirschbeck's friend, Jack Efta, was in charge of the umpire's room at Jacobs Field, so Hirschbeck, wanting to break the tension, asked Efta about Alomar. Efta said, "Roberto is one of the two nicest people I've met. And you're the other one." That comment was enough to prompt Hirschbeck to contact Alomar. They went to dinner, talked things out, and made peace.
Since then, Hirschbeck and Alomar have become close friends. The focal point of that friendship is Hirschbeck's other son, Michael, who also suffers from ALD. Hirschbeck and his wife have started a foundation to find a cure for this degenerative genetic disease that causes inflammation in the brain and afflicts 1,000 people each year in the USA. Roberto Alomar is one of the foundation's largest contributors, and biggest fund raisers. At one charity event he sold his jersey (along with that of his brother, Sandy, who was the catcher for the Indians) for $6,600. He also bought jerseys for the entire team to wear during one game that were later sold at a charity auction for ALD.
Michael Hirschbeck has been an honorary batboy for the Indians. Guess who his favorite player is.

Thought to Apply: Maybe God put us in this world to help somebody beat this disease. Roberto Alomar
