Key Bible Verse: Don't let evil get the best of you, but conquer evil by doing good (Romans 12:21). Bonus Reading:1 Peter 3:13-17
Thought to Apply: It's the age-old strugglethe roar of the crowd on one side and the voice of your conscience on the other. Douglas Macarthur (World War II general)
It must have felt like someone dropped him on a floating chunk of ice in the Antarctic. Darcy Ewing was being ignored by his fellow snowmobile racers and the media that covers the sport. It all began when his team cast him asideplacing his career in a temporary deep-freezebecause he refused to accept funding from the alcohol industry.
Darcy, who had won eight world titles and 20 national championships in snowmobile racing, was suddenly out in the cold because he couldn't feel good about receiving money from the makers of "cold ones." His wife and family supported his decisionagreeing that God wanted him to take a stand for what is right and honorable.
Darcy was off his old team, but not out of the sport. Later, during a tuneup race, a rookie driver lost control of his snowmobile and crashed into him. Darcy nearly bit off his tongue, lost some teeth, cracked two vertebra, and broke two ribs.
Undaunted, he made it to his goalthe World Championship in snowmobiling. In the final race, Darcy took the checkered flag! He had silenced his critics and stayed true to his course.
It's not easy to do the right thing, but God will provide the strength needed.
